This may have been my favorite opening day of the summer. Some of our best returning girls arrived today and I was amazed by how much they have grown. We also welcomed more first-year girls than I remember ever seeing. Ann and I especially enjoyed meeting so many parents.

My favorite part is when the parents leave (sorry guys) and we see girls become campers again. The first place I saw (really heard) this was when I was in the Mike and heard the returning girls in Jiggity Jig teaching the new campers the cabin song. Next was, surprisingly, the lice-check line, also known as the Merri-Mac day spa. Apparently lice checks are a great way to make friends! Then our first camp-wide gathering at dinner, where every cabin got to try out their new songs; and yes, there was a lot of volume. Finally I got to watch our final initiation of the summer – and it really is special every time.
