It’s a Merri day at camp! After a fun week of activities, Sunday was the perfect day for rest. Girls and their counselors enjoyed an extra hour of sleep before heading down the hill to feast on cinnamon rolls, bagels, and grits. After breakfast, girls enjoyed a special chapel led by Big Dipper. They acted out a story to remind us all of Jesus’s forgiveness. Then, campers had a bit of free time to improve in activities such as pottery, knitting, fencing, DIY crafts, and tennis. Some campers chose to use this time to relax and hang out with girls in their cabin. Some girls in Tweedles spent the morning having some spa time where they painted each others’ nails.

Lunch included the classic Sunday staples, including fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and gravy with mini apple turnovers for dessert. After lunch, girls got an extra thirty minutes of rest during rest hour before heading to other activities. One favorite Sunday afternoon activity was free swim. Girls got the opportunity to canoe, kayak, paddleboard, and even go on the blob. An afternoon rainstorm cut free swim and other activities a little short, but didn’t cut down the fun. Many girls spent time with friends in their cabins while they waited for the storm to pass.

Before dinner, girls came to the chapel for vespers where they watched skits performed by counselors including the hilarious adventures of “Larry Potter” and a poetry slam skit featuring lyrics of songs such as “Let it Go” from Frozen and “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction.  Girls also sung along to the tunes of Merri-Mac’s own prized band, the Black Mountain Oysters. Vespers ended with a talk by Timberlake’s Brandon C. who talked about the gift of God’s grace. After vespers, the girls headed down the hill for dinner. Sunday dinners are a Merri-Mac favorite because they include a big outdoor cookout with hotdogs, hamburgers, watermelon, potato salad, lemonade, and cookies. I was happy to get some time to spend with girls in my cabin while we ate and played tetherball. After dinner, girls returned to their cabins for some fun activities such as bracelet making, nail painting, and trading post raiding.
