The things I live my life by today I learned from your father when I was 10 years old. Brian Starr - Atlanta, GA
This was told to me about ten years ago by one of my father’s first campers. The thing that caught my attention was that Brian came from a wonderful family, with outstanding parents and a remarkably tight knit group of brothers and sisters. In fact, he said this during a huge family reunion that we were hosting at Merri-Mac and Timberlake.
Why is it that a great camp can make a great camper even better?
A family
We are made to live life together. This is why we love friends, and it is why we want our children to make life-long friends. It also happens at camp in a way that it can not happen anywhere else. Camp is very different from school in this respect. At school children form alliances, and they often make friendships outside of the class room. But at camp we live life together, every day, and every summer.
A Story

The minute a child arrives at camp they are caught up in a fast moving stream. It includes their initiation, growth in activities and skills, cabin raids, mud slides, and tribal events and promotions. All of these things are part of the story of that session. More importantly, at a great camp each camper sees herself as having a central role and an important part to play in this story.
A Hero
The most important influence in a child’s life should be their parents. The most powerful tools parents can employ are remarkable mentors for their children. None of this will happen accidentally and hiring extraordinary staff is where we shine.
