The job of a counselor:

A cabin counselor lives in a cabin with their campers and 2-3 other staff, partially separated in a "counselor's section" of the cabin. Each counselor will either lead or assist in an activity that matches their skills during the day. The main focus of a cabin counselor is to pour their lives into the lives of their campers; it is both hard and extremely rewarding work.

The job of trip staff:

"Trip staff" is a special type of counselor position aimed at running fun, safe, and professional off-camp trips. They are a team of staff that work together to bring our "trip calendar" to life - we take 2 two 3 trips a week in canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, fly fishing, and mountain biking. The "trip staff" work for both camps and make these trips a reality by, among other things, communciating closely with staff in that activity. A typical trip staff person is a multi-discipline athlete with some experience lead climbing and whitewater paddling, though we hire all of the skills mentioned earlier. Trip staff do not live in cabins with campers and must be willing to obtain a WFA, WFR, or lifeguard certification before summer begins.

Our Facility:

Our property has been continuously operated as a camp for over 50 years; it is wooded and beautiful with a lake, gym, riding ring and numerous other facilities necessary to offer a top notch camp program. Our cabins are rustic but comfortable with their own bathrooms and counselor sections.

Our Philosophy:

Camp is a traditional, family-run, Christian camp. Those buzz-words mean we offer a wide range of activities, we run our business as an extended community that is close knit and family-oriented, and that we hire and maintain a Christian staff and environment. We are not a church camp or a sports camp. We carefully balance competition and cooperation as well as in-camp and out-of-camp activities. The end result is a dynamic, nurturing environment that is challenging and wholesome for campers and staff alike. We pursue excellence in all things. Camp is designed to bring out the best in you while growing you spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Length of employment:

Most cabin counselors, barn, laundry, maintenance, office, and kichen positions are for the length of our summer operating schedule, typically late May - early August. Counselor-In-Training (CIT) positions are for one 4 week session only, as are many nurse positions.

Staff Requirements:

All cabin counselors must be 18 and have finished their first year in college. All CIT's must be 17, out of camp, and not yet in college. Each position requires a submitted application and a formal interview.

Benefits:

All positions are paid postions except CIT's. Cabin counselor/activity staff are on a pay scale based on qualifications and years in camp. When training or certifications are necessary or desirable (which is frequent), camp pays for the training. Some positions, for adult staff, are available on a swap-for-camper-tuition basis. All positions, except kitchen and laundry staff, include room and board for the summer.

Time Off:

Counselors get 1 full day off each week and 1 separate night out each week. Additional time off in camp is given as necessary. We make every effort to keep the staff rested and happy - we love what we do, and it shows in how we treat our staff.
