IMAGE CAPTION - "it's the place we daydream about..."

With camp around the corner we're hearing from more and more families and staff. Our favorite comment came from Anne A's posting on Macky's Bulletin Board:

"Camp is just around the corner, which means that Choctaw winning the banner is also just around the corner. I hope everyone has had an amazing year thus far, and school has gone well.

I have a question for everyone. What is your favorite thing about camp? Is it the amazing activities?!, the sweet tribal events, the crazy cabin times, the hilarious moments, the incredible friendships, the uplifting Christian environment, the glorious mountains?

What makes Merri-Mac different from other camps? Why does our count down for the 1st day of camp begin the day we get home from the previous summer? Being a freshman in college, we play a lot of get to know you games, and a question often asked is... where is your favorite place on earth, and well, I have traveled all around Europe going to some of the most beautiful places in the world, but Camp is still my favorite. Why is that? One of my best friends in the world (Emily Moynihan) once told me...the most beautiful girls in the world are the ones we feel the most comfortable around, the ones who are the easiest to talk to, the ones who we can be ourselves around and they love us no matter how silly we are, the ones who encourage us and pray for us, the ones who make you feel warm and loved.

I view camp the same way. It's a second home for us. It's where we can always be ourselves. It's where everyone is as crazy and wacky as we are. It's where we learn and teach the word of God constantly. It's where we make our best friends, (the ones we will have forever). It's the place we day dream about in class. It's the place we get reminded of when we see Nalgenes and Chacos. It's beautiful. So I leave you lovely ladies with the question, what is camp to you?"

Merri-Mac is calling...Can you hear it?

IMAGE CAPTION - having fun at Merri-Mac

Oh the days are flying by here in Black Mountain, and the property is buzzing with action! But that is not the only thing buzzing with action. It appears the Merri-Mac bulletin board is ablaze with excited campers and counselors! Here are some highlights: I just read something about Webby having dreadlocks,Vanessa said the word "plethera", and there was talk of bugle noises. So I recommend you all to go ahead and log-in if you haven't. To me, just seeing the way you girls talk about how much you look forward to camp is amazing! And we think that you all are amazing as well! After all... you ARE camp. So keep on keeping on girls.

What about the counselors?

We officially have an amazing gymnastics program lined up for the summer with the addition of two new counselors, Sierra Ulrich from Ole Miss (friends with Vanessa Hayes) and Jessica Brantley (friends with Stephanie Conley). These girls are super talented and super cool! We can't wait to have them here.

Until next time!

IMAGE CAPTION - never a dull moment at Merri-Mac!

This is one of the best times of the year! Everything at camp is coming alive. The trees are blooming, our tiny bit of snow has melted into the chilly stream, the springs and stream are doing their best to fill the lake while the workers quickly build the new dock and slide, and camp is receiving little face-lifts all over as fresh paint dries on steps and walls. It's also a favorite time because summer REALLY is just around the corner. Our new bundle of crazy creeks arrived on the porch yesterday and soon many more clothing boxes will be pouring in. We're working on all those many details that make camp just perfect when all of you girls arrive. It's exciting because before long you too will be here! I've been working on organizing all of the camp pictures which have been taken over the past years. It's fun to see all of the great moments of the past but even more to look forward to all of the events of this summer. So can you tell that summer is near and we can't wait!?! I don't think the staff can wait either. Many of them have been stopping by and staying for a couple of days. Melissa L. and Marie R. were just in my office chatting about camp and finding out how everyone is doing. Brie H., a new climbing instructor who I know you will all love, and Stephanie C. will be here tomorrow to go on a climbing trip with Stephen and Adam. Adam and I will be heading out next weekend to climb and boat with Paxton. He was here in the past and now will be returning as one of our amazing trip staff. Everyone is getting ready for camp and there definitely is never a dull moment!

From the Staff:

Lynda W., who will be teaching art again this summer, wrote: "Hey! I am writing from Barcelona (part of my three weeks of traveling on the continent for spring break), where they have these great escalators outside that take you up this really steep hill to a beautiful park. I think we should look into a similar system for installation at camp for next summer. Just wanted to let everyone know I have really been enjoying my travels, but it hasn't stopped me from craving camp. I miss you all!"

We love it when you keep in touch!

I can't wait to see you all very, very soon!
