Christmas at Merri-Mac!

IMAGE CAPTION - I'm thinking of Christmas at Merri-Mac!

Christmas is a favorite time at camp...maybe that's why we celebrate every summer too! Our favorite part is that we get to hear from so many campers and staff.

Cameron L. writes that "about a week ago I realized that it was only six months until Merri-Mac started up again; This year I'm going the whole summer, and I can't contain myself. I just finished exams, and now I'm on break! Christmas is in the air...well as much in the air as it can be when you live in Florida. I've been trying to keep up with as many friends from Camp as possible, and thanks to this website I can. Camp is going to be here soon. sooo...GO IROQUOIS!...much love to all and a happy Christmas" Emily B. says "I started high school this year and I love it! I have made a lot of friends so far. Tomorrow is my last day of school for this year!! Also I plan to return to Merri-Mac next year, and I'm really excited." From Alexa J. we hear, "I skipped a grade and am now in sixth grade, but all my old Stardust friends, don't worry, I'll still be with you guys. I'm in Beauty and the Beast at this one acting group, and I play the wardrobe."

From the Staff:

Autumn, Betsy and Lauren are the latest staff to sign up to return this summer, and we're starting to hire a few new counselors too. Of course there are some that are not able to return, like Sassy who will be on a Mission Trip to Honduras, but she promises to come back in 2007!

Maggie wrote to say, " I miss camp...it's so much more fun than finals! More info about grad school coming soon, then I will know if I get to come back!" We're keeping our fingers crossed Maggie. Kenisha's big news is that she is getting married! "I really can't believe how fast time has gone by. I must say that Merri-Mac was one of the best experiences of my life. I miss it so much that I would consider moving to NC just to be close to all those beautiful girls, with their fun spirits!! Well, I have officially finished my college tenure! Exams are over, grades are posted and I'm done! But Columbia College (SC) doesn't have a graduation ceremony until May so that will be the final walk. What else is new with Kenisha? Well, I am engaged and getting married on October 14, 2006... Very exciting! I also plan on doing some substitute teaching until I find a permanent job in the counseling field. I love kids, therefore I want to be a youth counselor, so I'm really thinking about adding a Christian Counseling Masters, to my BA in Child and Family Studies,... but please pray that I find uncommon favor with God, and that all will be well as I move on to a new chapter in my life. THANKS for all the great memories! Jen, the pics (from her wedding) were beautiful, I wish I could have been there, Patti-O I miss you, and Adam and Ann thank you so much for MERRI MAC!!!" Autum says, "I just wanted to tell everyone Merry Christmas and I'm so excited to come back to camp this summer as a JC!! I miss y'all so much!" Finally, Brittany writes to say that her family is doing well after the flooding in New Orleans. "We're doing well and we know that God has a reason for all this. I'm so excited about camp and being there again this summer."

Merry Christmas!

Winter at Merri-Mac

IMAGE CAPTION - What a difference campers make!

A lot of people wonder what we do all winter long, and most are amazed to learn that the office is very, very busy most of the time. Dan, Jen, Stephen, Ann and I have been spending most of our time traveling meeting with campers and interviewing new staff. I'm on my way today to meet with a potential counselor in Hickory! December, however, is our one relatively quiet month, so it's the best time to start thinking about next summer. We're especially doing a lot of thinking about redesigning the canoe dock so you will want to keep checking back to see the progress in action. We also enjoy hearing from a lot of our camp families and we especially love getting your Christmas cards. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Staff News

We've heard from a lot of staff recently. Leslie B. misses camp, Morgan C. recommended a great new counselor and Kenisha G. is getting married. Kate H. is enjoying her second year of medical school, Sarette H. has promised to return, Melissa P. is living in New York, and we just hired Mandi H.'s little sister Brie. Elizabeth H. is a freshman at Wake Forrest, Katie R. is interviewing staff at NC State, Emily M.'s sister is getting married this summer. Kate S. wrote saying' "Hey All! The Selwyn family got our Christmas tree today. Becca has named it Stephen, so I guess it is a him. I have a part in the winter play and am looking forward to the performances in January. I can't wait until camp!!! I'm actually looking forward to my C.I.T. duties. Honestly, working in the kitchen will probably be pretty fun for me, wanting to go to culinary school and all. Well, better get back to making dinner. Love You!"

We'd love to hear from you too, so drop us an email through the "what's new" link that you will find on the camp friends. You can also send pictures; we'll try to add them to our next newsletter.

Great Camping!

What's New at Merri-Mac?

IMAGE CAPTION - having fun at Merri-Mac

First off, we are pleased to announce that camp is building a new waterslide. It will start up at the road and enter the water at the bottom of the rhododendron bank. Big news! I have included a picture of the waterslide (still in its wrapper) up at the canoe hut and will continue to keep you updated as it's installed.

Tomorrow morning we're expecting camp to be hidden under snow! There are lots of great hills and Merri and Mac will be chasing everyone who makes it out to sled. Before that happens though Dan will see Jennifer G. and Jen will be with Kaitlyn and Logan R. as they all invite their friends to their homes to learn more about camp! Last week I got to do the same with Mary Katherine A. It was a great meeting and I'm looking forward to welcoming her friends to camp this summer.

We've Been Hearing From You

Katherine G. says, "Hey! I am so excited about the new water slide! When did you decide to put that in? Wow! I'm going to get a kitten soon...I'm excited. I really hope Hilary Gibbs comes back, or as most people know her as...GIBBS!!! Please beg her to come back!" I'll beg, I promise. Carina D. writes, "I can't wait to come back to camp and see all my friends!" Creigh L. complains "It is now hard to stay awake in highschool after lunch, I miss the best hour." Samantha L. is celebrating. "I'm in high school this year!! WOOT WOOT! I am going to Merri-Mac second session which will be very different for me because I'm a first session girl all my life...hopin' to meet some new people in Dreams End...I LOVE MERRI-MAC!! Jennifer G. reports "I am just starting middle school, and next year I am going to camp for five weeks." She is also running cross country! Finally, Audra C., and Rosie C., emailed to say they had found the Sombrero.

And From the Staff

Kelsey W. reports "Well I made varsity basketball team for a high school and I made volleyball and captain of varsity cheerleading squad also I raised money for my friends and family in New Orleans." Becca S. is excited that she's attending a "new High School, specifically for Drama. That's been a blast. Other than that, just work, friends and planning another ah-mazing summer!" Finally, Megan H. is hoping to transfer to the Art Institute of Colorado
